Carter's View On Things
In The Throne Of Fire by Rick Riordan, there are two different point of views in the story, Carter and Sadie Kane, and the gods. Carter and Sadie Kane want to resurrect the sun god Ra to defeat the snake of chaos Apophis. The gods, Carter Kane and Sadie Kane want to help each other but it would mean one side loses something of great importance to them. There is a huge event that is about to happen that they both have point of views on. If either side succeeds it wouldn’t benefit the other side. Both sides think Ra should be resurrected but the gods think that Ra will want to be crowned king of the gods again which Horus god of war just got crowned.
Even though talking about what the point of view is I will explain them a little bit. Maybe one reason the gods might think that Ra will want to be crowned king of the gods is because he was the first king but he was sent to slumber. He was poisoned by Apophis and Isis said the only way to heal him was to learn his secret name, she learned his secret name but she tricked him sending him into the heavens to slumber. Ra couldn’t come back from the heavens because Isis had his secret name and commanded him to slumber. Everybody's secret name is the ren in egypt, it was one of the five parts of the soul and it was called the ren. Everybody has a ren, the ren is someones personal experiences and everything about them.
Although the gods point of view is interewsting, don’t forget about Carter Kane’s and Sadie’s point of view. Carter and Sadie have a completely different point of view from the gods. Carter and Sadie believe that the only way to save the world from Apophis is to resurrect Ra. For them it is hard to resurrect Ra because when he was sent to slumber he went back to three different forms. The three forms of Ra are Khepri the rising sun, Ra the midday sun, and Atum the falling sun but he is just referred to as Ra in the book. In order to resurrect Ra they had to go through the duat and resurrect each form of Ra which is a feat no magician has done before. They try to delay Carter and Sadie on their quest by battling Carter and Sadie. The way the reader should feel is that Ra has been the rival of Apophis and if they do not resurrect him they will be doomed because Ra has been his Rival since the beginning of time.
Although if the point of view was changed it would be completely different. Carter, Sadie and the gods would be on the same side with no conflicts. They might try to get at least one of the three scrolls of Ra so that unless someone gets it from them, there is no chance of him getting resurrected. They would try to defeat Apophis by themselves and they would fail. The only chance they have it resurrecting Ra, if they don't the world will end.
If either point of view changes the other one has to change as well, even just a little bit. Both point of view i crucial to the story, each point of view depends on the other. When nobody could have another point of view because they aren’t in half of the story, if there was it would have to be a new character.
